Fitness Defined

How do you define fitness? If you are like me, I have always seen pictures of men with very defined muscles and women with perfect figures and that was my perception of fitness. Can you relate?

The first thing you need to understand is there are different levels of physical health, depending on your goals and life styles. In the perfect world, we would all probably dream to be like what I described above, but many factors determine what is best for you. Your values of life will play a role determining your levels of achievement. The picture of the men and women described above have obviously set values of physical appearance as very high in priority and I will guarantee you that level of commitment requires more time than most of us have to give. However, life styles play the biggest role in your ability to achieve various levels of physical ability and appearance.

Using a friend as an example, with his work schedules, his commitment to family activities, and his commitment to community activities, time plays a big factor in the level of additional physical acitivity he can achieve.

He is in his mid forties and finds himself to be significantly more fit than the largest percentage of people he meets who are close to his age. Why, you may ask. Balance is the key. I have mentioned this before and I will continue to say this. You must develop balance in your life to achieve optimal health. The ability to stay in good physical shape is one of those areas you must pay attention to, so you can maintain overall health. The key is not necessarily how much exercise or activity you do, the key is that you JUST DO IT!

So…where do you start?

At the beginning, of course.

OK, on a more serious note. As you read through the various pages, I will share with you words of advice, various workout suggestions, and statements/suggestions from experts that will help you with your goal to physical improvement.

And most important, working towards better fitness can be fun and I hope to show you how to accomplish this. So lets get started with your fitness program.
