Importance of Mental or Spiritual Wellbeing

Our spiritual well being, our mind, our intellect is taken for granted sometimes. I mean, think about it. People are cognizant of just about everything of their life. Everything, that is, except their spiritual or mental well being. Just listen to what people say and that will tell you what people’s concerns are:
- “I need to start working out. My body just is not in the shape it needs to be.”
- “No ice cream for me. I am trying to lose a few pounds.”
- “I will pass on that invite to go out dancing. Finances are a little tight.”
- “I would love to play softball, but my work schedule won’t allow me to and I do have to pay the bills.”
- “I am going to take better care of myself this year. I am joining a gym, taking vitamin supplements, and going to eat healthier.”
But how often do you hear…..”My mind needs some exercise.” Or “I need a little time to just relax.” Do you know that occasionally, relaxation needs to happen not only physically, but mentally as well? Keeping our mind in shape is a key to maintaining balance in the other areas of your life, including nutrition, fitness, and finances.
Controlling stress can play a big part in spiritual or mental health. When you make a conscious effort to give yourself some time, working toward spiritual health, less stress will automatically follow. In your goal to achieving optimal health, you must incorporate some "you" time into your day/week. One of my favorite ways to keep my mind in shape is reading. You can read whatever you enjoy and there will be benefit. Check out Amazon.com for your reading needs. However, since I am serious about improving myself to be the best I can be in all areas of my life, I choose to read (for lack of a better term) self-help books. By doing this, I am gaining the benefit of reading, keeping my mind sharp, and I am learning how I can change my ways to improve in different areas of my life.
